An appeal case concerning a, tangi -was dealt with at the Supreme Court to-day when Mr Justice Cooper delivered judgment in the case of Public Trustee (appellant J and David Peal Loasby (respondent The appeal was from a judgment of the Stipendiary Magistrate at Greytown in favour of the respondent. Th e resopndent's claim was to recover from the defendant as administrator of the estate of Ha'nera Tamahau Mahupuka, a deceased native chief, £lll 5s 6d for provisions, tobbacco and cigarettes supplied first upon iho verbal order of Arete Mapupuka, the princibal order of Arete Mahupuka, the princip.l wife of the deceased chief, and subsequently upon her written order, for the use of visitors at a. tangi held in consequence of the death of Mahupuka. The supply commenced on tho 15th January, 1901 and continued until the 28th Juno" 1904. The Magistrate disallowed £l9 2s of iho cla'ni principally the charges for tobacco a.o<l cigarettes and gav e judgment for £92 Is 6d.
