Unruly Wedding Guests.
POLICE WITH DRAWN TRUNCHEONS.
AH efforts to stop a fight among the gnests at a Kentish Town wedding about midnight on a recent Sunday failed till tho arrival of three constables. Differences weret at once forgotten, and the tt ruggling gnesits and onlookers closed np their ranks and turned their attention to the policemen. " And -this was on Sunday night, afier the-public houses were closed," eaid Mr Paul Taylor, the magistrate at Maryletw>ne Police Court, when Philip Paleman was fined 10s or seven days for disorderly conduct, and Emily Pateman, his wife, wa« similarly sentenced for obstructing the police. The three constables found the wedding quests fighting, and were in the act of "clearing away" the combatants when the male accused took hold of the railings outside the house and commenced to argue the point, nsing bad language. He was ordered to desist, but refused, and when bo was arrested his wife made a determined effort to release him from custody. She was then arrested'.
A hostile crowd gathered round, and he constable who arrested Mrs. Pateman was kicked- So menacing did the crowd become that the consabks had to draw their truncheons in self defence.
The magistrate said the action of the constable in drawing their uruncheons was perfectly justified. Inspector Holloway said the district in question was so rough, particularly on Sunday nights, that the police had to patrol it in twos jn order to keep the peace.
