'Lake the Blackball strike for instance. If tin- Arbitration awards were made clearer and more workable the Governmemnt would be doing the country and the worker generally more good. The mill-owners' award for instance is all very good for Mr McCnllocha nd Mr Justice Sim. who have well paid billets. The award is unworkable. There are say ten men on a ' mill. Eight of them have to give a week's notice or the owner has to do tlie same. Yet of the principal men, the feeder and driver, the feeder can walk away without, giving a minute's notice, and the driver need not. shut. «ff steam. The way the arbitration laws are at present, the above cannot be fined but. the men can. Hoping some better pen than mine will lake the matter up.—l am, etc., ONE OF THE VICTIMS.
