TIMARU BAND CONTEST.

Mr Fraser, and discussed possible teriiw with him. and made an offer to be laid before the directors. They had also interviewed Mr and Mis J. W. White regarding the use of their grounds' for a garden party, and they mnrst willingly and geiicrousiy agr« ed to grant their request.

There was not much at present for the sub committers to do, if authority were given him and the chairman to do certain things. But it would lie well to have an advisory committee, and he proposed that- this committee be formed from thosepresent. A finance committee would also be required, as arrangements must be made for meeting current expenses. Since last i meeting he had obtained an addition of £fl% to the guarantee list, making the total now £567. After a dfc>cu:t>ion in which it was" agreed that a commit tie of moderate: nitmbeiw would be more effective, it wat> resolved that the general committee, consist of the president, vice-president and secretary tex-ofticio), Captain Fodcn, Messr* J. K. Hurdky. W. Gilc.hri.vt, A. A. Ware, T. Kington. W. Miller, Batteisby. F. A. Raymond. J. 11. Moore, T. llnwkey, F. C Watson, with power to add to their number, sit to be a quorum. Mr J. K. Hurdley win, appointed treasurer; and the president, vice-president, treasurer, and Messrs Fodon and Gilchrist were appointed a finance committee. Messrs Foden and Battcinby and the ■secretary were, appointed a programme committee, with power to act. The becretary stated that the JJifhden Company would present a silver challenge cup, valueu 50 guineas, to become the property «;f any band winning it threei times.

A ietter from the Lyttt-lton Marine Band recommended the inclusion of a trombone trio and fitigel horn solo.— Referred to the programme committee. A discussion took place on the manner of obtaining a. judge. It was resolved to name a fee, and offer it for acceptance to the several judges available and ask if each would accept the appointment at a fee. provided a. majority of the bands voted for him; the alternative being asking each judge (to name his fee. The fee was then fixed at £25, and travelling expenses not exceeding £lO. The appointment of military judges was postponed. The programme committee was authorised to inquire into and report on hallssuitable for the test selection, the theatre to be booked for the soli, etc. The date for closing receipt of band entries was fixed for June 15th, and for soli, etc., a month later; schedule of competitions and prizes to be prepared and distributed by the programme cemmittee at once. The secretary was authorised to obtain dtuigik; and tenders from local jeweller.j for gold and silver medals required. . It was decided to invite the district pipe bands to attend on quickstep dav and play in intervals. A vote of thanks to .Mr Hole for presiding closed the meeting.
