STATE OYSTERS.

WELLINGTON, May 13. Hie Marine Department has been advised bv the Chief Inspector of Fisheries, at present- in Auckland, .that there are now 7*o men engaged in picking oysters for the market. Thirty-six of these are at work on the Waiheke beds and the others are at the Bay of Islands. The oysters are coming to hand at a satisfactory rate and he not anticipate that the complaints regarding slow delivery will be made after a week or two. He adds that fully 90 per cent, of the public and the dealers in the north arc satisfied with the way in which the Department is meeting the demaud.
