INTERPROVINCIAL.

P«r Pmm Association. AUCKLAND, May 13. Th« Auckland West branch of the LibMai and Labour Federation carried a resolution calling the attention of the Minister of Justice to the dangerous class of prisoners sent tm Waiotapu, judging by the recent escape* of two dangerous burglars, and one armed highwayman, two being «tiß at large. The Federation entered a strong protest against- such prisoners being sent to Waiotapu and allowed to endanger the safety of the public. NAPIER. May 13. The prisoner, Ewston, who wad. convicted of attempted robbery under arms and tejcaped from the Wiuotapu tree-planting camp, ha* been recaptured by Constable Byan at Rangitahai. DANNEVIRKE. M>y i 3. A poll was taken at Dannevcke today for the purpose o£ fixing the weekly half-holiday, the result being 121 fm- Wednesday, Zt against. '

PALMERSTON N., May 13. A Chinaman was brought before the Stipendiary Magistrate this morning to show cause why he should not pay the poll tax. When the caae was called it was discovered that, the information for such offence must be laid within six months of the date of the committal of the offence and as the' accused was a long-standing offender it was not possible to proceed. It was suggested that it would be a comparatively easy matter for a new chum from the Flowery Land to get in safe hiding amongst his compatriots for so short a period as six months, and unless the law was amended there was every probability that the wily heathen would have another oporttmifcy to show his propensity in ways that are dark and tricks that are vain. The police had yet another grievance against the accused in that he was at deserter from the cable repairing steamer Iris. It » alleged ithat the offence was committed in 19<W. Accused admitted it and was remanded to Auckland to join the steamer. The Minister of Land* met several members of the committee of the A. and P. Association, on the grounds this morning in rgard to a site for » dairy school and buildings. The discussion was informal and the Press was not admitted, but- it is understood thaitl a cite for the school has been approved by the Minister and also for the managers residence. The report wiH come before the next ordinary meeting of the full committee. The ratepayers* of Wadestown voted today on three alternative tram routes; the route favoured by the majority is 93 chains long, and the estimated cast of the scheme is £25,000.

WELLINGTON. May 13

The Minister of Labour has decided to establish a Female Labour Bureaa in each of the four centres. It is probable that Miss Bremner will be placed in charge at Wellington, Mrs Hawthorne at Auckland, Mess Morrison at Christchurcb, and Miss Hays at Dtmedin.

CHRISTCHXJRCH, May 13

Dr Talbot and another motor-car owner were each fined £5 and coats to-day for driving cars at a greater speed than eight miles an hour. The doctor said that he was driving at the rate of fifteen miles an hoar on the Papanai Road at a time when there wirs hardly any traffic, and was driving carpfully. If the- by-law w<Te .«tr£ct!y enforced, doctors would have to use horee and trap.* by which they could travel faster. One driver eaid hebad seen cabs coming and going to the races at .'wenty miles an hour and many cab horses in the city could do a mile in three rot'nwtes.
