Daniel Kennedy came up on remand this ; afternoon charged with the attempted murder of his wife Olive on .the afternoon, of May 5 by shooting at her with a revolver. . ~■ ■ --. - . Olive Kennedy, wife of the accused, rcaicl that she had been married' 23 years'last April, having arrived 12 months ago. from Brisbane, Queensland, where they: were married. Her husband who was ar lithographer had been addicted to periodic bouts of drinking, but tip to May 2 had been fairly sober for some time.: On that day he was very abusive and told her. it was her last -day on earth. The following day he pointed a revolver at her.and before she had time to grasp her husband's arm the weapon went off, the bullet.going over her head. Witness' son did not think" his father had made a serious attempt to take his mother's life. His father was -all right so long as he left drink: alone. After further evidence the Magistrate said that he wonld consider, whether he would commit Kennedy to the Supreme Court for trial or deal with him summar« ilv.. ".'■'' STRATFORD, May 13. Burglars entered two hotels , here * last night, getting away with money and jewellery from sleepers' rooms. There is no chia to the robbers. NEW PLYMOUTH, May 13. Two thieves went through the Stratford and Commercial hotels last night. They were seen at each place and chased, but eventually eluded the police, one minus his hat and boots. Sums of money and a gold watch,were stolen from rooms while the occupants' were- asleep. WELLINGTON, May 13. . At the »S.M. Court to-day a young man named Percy Faulkner, employed as a jockejr, was committed for trial on a charge of indecently assaulting a girl aged eight years. Ernest Wehrstedt, charged with forging a name to a money order -telegram was committed for trial. WESTPORT, May 13. Olaf Halinan and Andrew Anderson, sea< men off the West-port Coal Company's s.s. Canopus, wei - e to-night arrested on a warrant charging them with the murder of Ernest John Burke, of Reefton, whose body was found last week in McLaughlin's stables.
