David .Stunock, her engineer, got his left, foot caught- in (lie bight as the rope was tightening, and the loot was torn off. He was removed to the hospital, where the leg was amputated, and he lies in a precarious condition from the operation and shock.

At the inquest on the body of Henry Wilton, a- plasterer, who died from, injuries sustained by * a fall from a scaffolding at. the Caledonian Hotel, a verdict of accidental death was returned, the jury adding a rider to the effect that, more care should be taken in testing timber for the erection of scaffolding.

Mr S. R. M-errett, who was injured in the motor car accident, on Saturday week, died at the hospital at 5 o'clock this morning. After hearing the evidence of Dr C'rooke, hoitiie surgeon at. the hospital, as to the condition of Merrett when admitit-ed, the inquest was adjourned till March sth in order to allow of further enquiries being made a>> lo the exact cause of tilt- accident.
