SYDNEY. February 28. Wheat is hardening and the inquiry is improving.
Messrs Dalgety and Co. report under date London, February 7th:—"There is ii lightly bttter demand for frozen meat in general, but prices are about the same. At to-day's Tabbitskin. sales there was a poor demand and ' prices of Australtar, skins in general were lower by Id to l£a per lb. For New Zealand 'abbitskins prices of furriers skins are unchanged, whilst other qualities are lower by ycl to' 2d per lb. The butter market is demoralked and Quotations are nominal. The Copenhagen official quotation is eighteen kroners lower. The total imports into the United Kingdom for the weelc ended February 22nd were 83,G0Ocwt. compared with' 104,000cwt. for the same period last year." The Canterbury Farmers' Co-operative Association report having held their fourth wool sale of the .present series m. the Theatre Royal on -Thursday afternoon. Considering the small offering T-here was a. fair representation of buyers, mending one or two speculators who materially helped the sale. Our catalogue comprised 444 bala> and we disposed of tlu> major portion of it and in most instances for lots that had been offered before at an advance on • the ■ previous sale. We con-, siderthe tone of the market and general, demand were considerably better than the previous sale. For the Birch Hill merino we obtained 10£ d per' lb for the • first quality and for the second quality. This sale practically concludes the season durino- which we have offered 6542 bales.
