OX THE GOLD FIELDS. Per Press Association. THAMES, February 14. The Prime Minister has arrived at Thames from the Tipper goldfields. He was welcomed by the mayor, county chairman, and representatives of local bodies. Sir J. G. Ward proceeded to Piako io witness the comprehensive drainage scheme now undertaken bv the Government which, is estimated to cost over £BO,OOO spread over several years. He was greatly impressed with the possibilities of the large area of land available nearly a quarter of a million acres of which the Government have purchased eighty thousand.
