INDIANS IN THE TRANSVAAL. DKMONSTRATTON IN JOHANNESBURG. Prets Association-By Telegraph-Copyright PRETORIA, Jan. 11. Seven Indians were sentenced at Pretoria to three months' imprisonment- for disobeying the Magistrate's order to quit the Transvaal. The defendants in addition were fined £IOO. Three others were ordered to pay £SO. failing the payment hi which each will be imprisoned for a further three months. Four of these men had had large local business connections. The distinguished Indian barrister, Mr Gandhi and five ether Indians were sentenced to two months imprisonment- -without hard labour for having defied the law. At the close of the Court- proceedings a procession of Indians marched through the streets of Johannesburg carrying black flags. PRECAUTIONS IN CANADA. OTTAWA. Jan. 11. Advices from Victoria (British Columbia) state, that new regulations providing that immigrants to Canada .must bonk through passage-; from the land of their birth or citizenship wliich become operative immediately,- will slop the- influx of Japanese via Hawaii and of the Hindus via Hongkong.
