A special;ms-eting of the Timaru Borough Council was held last •evening for the. jrarpose^ofselecting an expert clerk of works to* look after the drainage contracts now l4t (one in progress, one to- be commenced):; The Mayor and all the councillors were present, and Mr Marchant, engineer for ; the work, attended the meeting! for consultation. There were fourteen applications, twelve from Timaru residents, one from Dunedin, and one frftni Christchurch. The majority were .carpenters and builders. Only two had bi'en a clerk of works bsfore, one of -theserin London. ' The Council conferred with Mr Marchant. in committee, and decided, on ,'a mode of (selection, and after reading and considering the applications two men were named, and'-the Council selected and appointed Mr; Alex. Donn, plumber, of Timaru, at present- in tlie employment of Mr Craigie. Mr Dorni] sent in testimonials from Messrs Turnbull and Panton, architect. Mr said he was a, mart suitable man.
