GRAIN MARKET. The grain market in Timaru is now practically at a standstill, only about 200 sacks of wheat at 5s 6d per bushel f.o.b. having been sold this week, and nothing else is offering. A prominent grain merchant informed a " Herald" representative yesterday that he did not anticipate much more business till next- season* crops come in, and he added that the want of rain did not make the outlook for grain growers too hopeful. THE CHRISTCH URCH MARKETS. Per Press Association. CH RISTCHURCH, December 6. The grain market is at a standstill. There is no enquiry for wheat and a few holders who occasionally make enquiry only mtet with disappointment. They are not willing to accept any considerable reduction on the high rates that ruled some weeks ago, but buyers say that 5s at country stations is about a fair value. It is known that- some good lines of wheat are still held in the country and fears of a shortage have apparently disappeared, especially in view of the v fact that the harvest promfets to be early. There is very little enquiry for oats and 3s 3d at country stations- ii> probably the outdde value. Oatsheaf chatF is» easier .•several holders of stocks- being willing to accept a clearance at this i;tage of the season at lower rates than those ivcently quoted. Potatoes are very dull of tale, and at £2 per ton but little business could be done.
