There was a fair attendance in Trinity Church last night to enjoy the' organ and vocal recital given by ,ur Kdgar Hancial/ and 'members- "of the clioir and frienu;. As an organist Mr Randal was in his be:-,t form, and the masterly 'way in which he played Saint Saeno' " r^Cygne" was replete with thatsimplicity which comd only be-brought out by a skilled player. His other solos were well chosen, arid suitably interpreted. Bach's prelude and fugue in G majoi', was •■ taken with a vigour of movement arid /broatiTKiJs of interpretation which' allowed no looseness of exeeu ion. to. creep in.. "Chorus of Angers " (Clarke) was another finely handled work, the arpeggio parages were smoormy and connectedly taken, and; the solemnity associated with, the title'.'.was finely pou--: trayed. . Mendelssohn's Sonata (No.' 6) in its well-known divisions was ! the', masterpiece of the evening..- llie' harmdniour. choral opening, working with its multitudinous changes through the'flowing andante movement; the'allegro; with its celerity in execution and ihe cleanness of its runs, was followed by the fugue chorale, from the ending of which the melodious: andante took the work to its close. Godard's " Solitude" and Dudley Buck's "At Evening " were tastefully given. The remaining organ solo wr.o • Smart's " Air will Variations," completing a string of much brilliance. < The vocalists were Miss Anderson (who has resumed her place as the leading f-.oprano of-the choir), Miss McCahon. Mr S. Gilchrist, Mrs D - Kennedy, and Mr Neil Black. "-, All were delighted to welcome Miss Anderson, and her solo " Rejoice Greatly" was a, : great treat. Mr S. Arm! ye brave." Ilyv full choir contributed "Glorious in Thy Name " and "The Heavens are Telling.", , Misses AndeiGon and McCa.hon gave a splendid rendering of the duet ," Life's Thanksgiving."
