The Tsina.n brings details of the burning of the German steamer Wile. While on the voyage from Yokohama to Kobe tlia vessel "ran into a typhoon; then a lite broke out below. Men were driven from the engine-room and the vessel came to a standstill, helpless she drifted ashore and was wrecked. The crew were rescued by native fishermen.
The steamer brings news that cholera is raging in many parts' of Japan, and that there have been great storms and floods, 1700 persons being drowned at Fukuehiyvma. Many people were buried under landslides while Yokohama experienced the greatest floods for 40 years.
