DOMINION DAY.

Per Press Association. AUCKLAND, September 18. At tlu Board of Education meeting today several members spoke strongly against another school holiday. The Board revolved unanimously to forward a telegram from the Education Department to various school committees with the notification that the Board leaves the commit-" tee t-o decide in 'what manner Dominion Dav shall be observed.

The proposal to establish another holiday to celebrate Dominion Day met with •strong opposition a,t the hands of the Auckland Trades and Lahoiir Council tonight. Mr Park moved that this Council strongly protests against the proposal to add to tlva list of holidays ■ by establishing another holiday upon which the workers of the Dominion ,will be expected to close a day's pay from their already attenuated wages. The motion which was supported by all the members was unanimously carried.

PALMERSTON N.. September 18. At a. meeting of the Holiday Association to-day it. was unanimously decided not. to / observe a holiday on Dominion Day but to keep business places open as usual. It was also decided to protest, against Dominion Day being made a statutory holiday.

The Mayor of Timaru yesterday received from the Premier a sketch of* the proprammo •which is to be carried out at Wellington. The details have already appeared in our telegraphic columns. The Premier add°d that this would give Mr Craigie an idea of what is required. The only part in which unanimity is desired is (lie declaration of the Dominion at 11. a.m. The text of this declaration which is to be read by Mr Craigie, will be sent to the Mavor in a day or two.
