Press Association-By Telegraph-Copyright Received 10.55 p.m., September 17th. LONDON. September 17.
Lord George Hamilton, in a letter to the " Times," says that colonial preference, however well-intentioned, will really enable the parties to popularise and strengthen the consolidation of the Empire. While its operations are regulated by a spirit of unbending protection, there is not a particle of evidence to show that the tariff .was prompted by vindic-t-iveness or that the duties are higher than the Commonwealth Government consider necessary to adequately protect Australian products, and secure-revenue.
