AUCKLAND PLAYERS DEFENDED. Fez Press Association. AUCKLAND, September 16. SpeaJdng at the dinner at which the Auckland Rugby Union entertained the Wahganui team "on Saturday evening, H. Absolum (captain of 'the visiting team) said that his team were informed when they came to Auckland that they would be "kicked off the earth, but he had never played in a more friendly game, although it wa» a very hard-fought one. A. Gray, the manager of the team, s-aid that while tba game was hard and fast, there was no suspicion of rough play or illegal tactics.
A friendly football match between teams representing the postal and telegraph offices was played on the Athletic Grounds last -evening, and resulted in a draw. In the first spell the game was very even, and Dephoff scored a try for the telegraph, but no goal resolted. In the second spell the- postal team had the best 'of the game, and McKeagoe scored a try, which was not converted. For the postal Davidson, Graham, Webb, McKeagne and Sundliom showed up prominently, while for the telegraph Dephoff. Williams, Hathaway and Malthus played well. Mr E. Husband made an efficient-referee. A return match will probably be played at an e.irty d:'.te.
