TRINITY HARRIER CLUB. The committee of the Trinity Harrier Club got off an event yesterday afternoon in the form of a 11apercl1a.se, and that they were happy .in their choice was apparent from the manner in which the Club members rolled up, and the way .in which each arid' all of the runners spoke as to the 'enjoyment of the outing. This event was placed on the syllabus to give members an opportunity of testing their staving powers, aiid an opportunity was also given for members to gel; into .training for the championship and resiled handicap race, to bs held a fortnight hence, an event which is being looked forward to with considerable intercut. On the invitation of Mr George. Cross, the Club met at his residence, .Otipua road. The hares for the paperchasc were D. F. G-lanville and J. Norrie, both of whom being experienced harriers, were successful in their efforts to put the , pack : off the trail. .Starting from Otipua road the paper led to Wai-iti road, where iv false trail took the pack for about half a mile down that mad. The runners then retraced their steps, picked up the genuine* trail, which led towards the Golf Links, and after following numerous false tracks they eventually found themselves on the Main North road. From hero the trail led to Caroline Bay, via Sefton and Elizabeth streets, home. At Sefton street, Tait, Hamilton and Fisher drew away from the pack, and reached homo with a good deal to spare. On the ra-t-urn home. Mrs 'Cross entertained the Harriers, to afternoon tea, 1 and the captain (D. F. Glauville) on behalf of his Club mates, returned thanks to Mr and Mrs Crotis for their kindness and hospitality. Mr Cross, in reply, invited the Club to pay him a* return visit, and his remarks were endorsed by Mrs Cross. Three hearty cheers for the host and hcistc-ss terminated an enjoyable afternoon's sport. Members are. reminded that- entries clom with the secretary (Wm. Tait) on Thursday first, for the championship and sealed handicap race. SOUTH ■CANTERBURY'* HARRIERS. The annual cross-country championship of the above Club was decided ye.-terday over a muiisc from Caroline Bay, the distance being a little more than four milts. The starting point should have been from the Bathing Sheds along the .sand, but on account of the tide being at its fullest, tlie. promenade was utilised. At the railway bridge Claugliton and Sinclair were still leading, then came Coker, and a short distance away, C. Malthus. Claughlon drew away, and kept increasing his- lead to the finish. At the half distance, Mansford and Walsh were running together with Sam Malthus in close* touch. These positions were* kept* up to the finish and last year's winner. Claughlon, honied an easy first, Sinclair a short distance away, second, and Coker. who ran a particularly line race, finished a. good third.
