WAIMATE HUNT .STEEPLECHASES. The Waimate Hunt Club's second Steeplechase Meeting was held at Waimate yesterday in favourable weather. A light siiower fell late in the afternoon, but ih did not discourage the public, who were vi ry enthusiastic. The going-was' heavy, and in some places was slippery. T.'ia fencing, all round, was very creditable to 'the* riders, and it was pleasing to sea such a good field of local hunters. The races were well conducted, all being well up to time, and carried through in a true' Sporting spirit, ..aiid the Club earned the thanks of viators for the courtesy shown to them. Mrs El-worthy presented Mr R. H. Rhodes' cup to the winner of thy Blueclifl's Handicap, Mr Parkinson, who was received with applause. 1 The following are the- results: BLUECLIFFtt HANDICAP, cup, value 10 guineas, presented by Mr R. H. Rhodes; 2nd, trophy, 3 guineas; 2 miles-. Mr S ! . Parkinson's blk g Bungler, aged, 12st* 51b ...'..; 1 Mr A. Archer's ch g Selini, 5 yeans, . list ... 2 Mr T. Twomey's rn g Dormant, aged, list 101b 3 Fitzroy, Farrier, and Shaughraun also started. Bungler and Dormant were favourites. Selim lay back at first, and made a big run near the finish, but not sufficient, for him to win. HUNTERS' HURDLE RACE, trophy 5 guiuS'.is ; 2nd, trophy, 1 guinea; for quaified hunters ; lj mile. Mr M. Leonard's ch g Leonardo, 6 years, list 101b 1 Mr B. D. Whitney's ch g Toku-Hoa, 6 years, list ' 2 Mr Maddison's b g Fleetwood, aged, list 91b 3 Cocking 'Piece also started, but lost his chance through a fall. Leonardo led from start to iin:.:h. and won easily. WAIMATE HUNT STEEPLECHASE, trophy, 10 guineas; 2nd, trophy 2 guineas; 2j mile. Messrs Elworthy Bros.' ch g Comet aged, 12st 41b .: 1 Dr Thomas" br g Brownhill, aged, list lOlbs 2 Mr A. Archer's ch g Selini, *5 vears. list 3 In this race Brownhill ran off at one of the lences, and jumped the wing; but he managed to take the fence w-dl on a second attempt. Selini fell at the came fence and came third. HACK RACE, of 3 suvs; second, lCs; 6 furlongs. Mr T. Twomev's b h Sunburst, 4 years, lOst 81b 1 Mr T. Twomey's ch g Umerabov, 3 years, lOst '. 9. Mr I'. Kelcher's b m Rennie, aged, lOst 3 Victoria and Springbok also started. Won easily. Sunburst led all the way, the second 'horse had a bad start, and Rennie ran well for third place. TALLY-HO STEEPLECHASE, trophy 5 sows; second horse, 1 sow from the (stake ; 2 miles. Dr Thomas' br g Brownhill, aged,'l2st lib 1 Mr A. Archer's ch g Selim, 5 years, list : 2 Mr E. H. Kapsev'.s ch g Fitzrov, aged, list 61b '. 3 This was a very popular win for Brownhill, who won comfortably. Selim tired towards the finish, and Comet full. LADIES' BRACELET, trophy, 5 guineas; second trophy. 1 guinea; I.J--miles on tin- Ihit. Mrs Leonard's ch g Leonardo. 6 years, list. 71b ... '. 1 Miss M. Rattray's b g Otekaike. aged, lis l 31 bs " 2 Mrs F. A. Archer's ch m. Springbok, 5 years, list 3 Cocking Piece also started. Otekaikemade* a. good race' for about two-thirds of the distance, when Leonardo forged ah-iad and won easily.
