SHIPPING CASUALTIES.
ISLAND SCHOONER OVERDUE. VIND OF WRECKAGE. Rev Tress Association. AUCKLAND .August 18. The steamer Navua which arrived from the islands yesterday, brought news of a feared shipping catastrophe in Tongau Group. 'the trading .schooner .Scharlo te, owned and sailed by Capt«m A. W. Gordon Mackay, formerly known as the Copra King, left Tonga on July 12th f»i' Niuafoon, a. two days journey and had notbeen heard of since, although .-lie was three weeks ait sea. when the Navua visited the !?nmp. The Scliarlotte sixty natives': oil board for Niuafoon, and it is believed that, all were, lost., including the captain, as no tidings of cither the boat or her iivinf freight had been received up to the time" the "Navua ' left for Auckland, six days :igi>. . i The natives at Pakiri, north of Auckland, report finding wreckage on the beacu from the Constance Craig. L includes Lh& name board of 'the- vessel, on one side and "Constance Craig" on the other. The natives stale that the name was fastened on to a. large piece of timber. Other wreckage is part of the companion way, a boat's paddle and part, of the leg of a tabic.
