4. new process for'the manufacture of '•.-stile fabrics from thread made of paper i-- one of the latest inventions. It is stated that this is not si chance discovery, hut the result of years of study and experimentation. Thn new product is called •' xylolin," and the extivme cheapness of the"new material, in comparison with other yarn.-, in use, will lead to its adoption in ■wide ranee of cloths where cost has to be considered. The paper thread' has been woven into almost every conceivable fabric. The resulting manufactured article lias been tested and r-etested, and the invention is now pronounced to be an important success. The 'paper thread has extraordinary wearing properties, and has nothing whatever 1 of the nature of papermache: It is primarily a thread used in weaving, and the looms already employed in the manufacture of those fabrics can be readily adapted to the manipulation of xylolin.' The thread is not brittle, as would be supposed, has a fioft surface, does not shrink or stretch to any appreciable extent, and moisture has practically no effect upon it. It is regarded as a serviceable substitute for jute, cotton, linen, or even silk. It combines the good qualities o'f cotton and linen at, one-third the price uf the former and one-tenth of, the priceof linen.' " Brad'strsets" 'States that already factories are a'i work in England and Germany turning out paper thread which is bought, by textile manufacturers for use in the mills. It is the be.sine?s of the inventor to supply the spun paper, and not make up the number of articles which can bo woven from xylolin.
