THE RUGBY UNION. A meeting of the -Management Committee of the Rugby Union was held in the secretary's, office last evening, Mr F. 0. Watson bsing in the chair. The Canterbury Rugby Union wrote that they were holding .si tournament for third and fourth grade teams on August 24th, and another for seniors and juniors on August 31st. The Geraldine Football Club wrote protesting against the Pleasant Point Club last Thursday playing two men who they considered were .senior men. The Geraldine Club are to be informed that under competition rule No. *B, the Pleasant Point Club were quite right in playing the two men who are not classified as seniors. Waimate Old. Boys' Club protested against Celtic Club playing a man in their thirds who they (Waimate) had heard, had played in Christchureh as a junior last season. This protest was also out of order as no 'deposit was.sent-,' and was accordingly dismissed. The.Temuka Football Club wrote asking to ( have a -representative game played in Temuka,. preferably the Canterb".:ry match. They would see to the ground arrangements and the Union would get all the gat© money, after paying for gate-keepers, etc. Mr Drake moved and Mr Collins seconded : " That subject to the approval of the Canterbury Union the game with Canterbury be played on August 22nd, at Temuka, and if satisfactory arrangements can be made the team will also be entertained there."—Carried. The New Zealand Rugby Union wrote asking the Union to go further into the question of a player who had been disqualified for misconduct. Mr Carlton moved, Mr Collins seconded, that the chairman and secretary draft a letter to the New Zealand Union explaining matters. A player who was ordered off the field in the Slaf v. Pirates junior match last Thursday for rough play, was ordered to appear before the Union next Friday evening to explain his conduct. The Canterbury Rugby Union approved of Mr 0. F. Collins being referee in their match against .South 'Canterbury'.. Owing to the representative games next Thursday it was decided to declare all competition games off.

SATURDAY COMPETITIONS. A match between Zingari and Star (Mr Husband, referee), will be played on A'o. 2 Athletic Ground at 3 p.m. to-day. Schools' Sevan-a-Side Tournament.—For the seven-a-side tournament on the Athletic Grounds, to-day 22 teams have entered. Play commences at 10.30 a.m., and is timed to finish at 3 p.m. It is expected that there will be some very exciting games.
