SCHOOL FOR CANNINGTON.
To the Editor of the "Timaru Herald." Sir, —In the "Timaru Herald" of June 12 k- a report of the South Canterbury Education Board's discussion re a new r school wanted for Cannington district I also see a counter petition from Mr J. S. Hamilton protesting against the proposed school at Cannington. It was resolved that the Inspector'be instructed to report, keeping in view the counter petition. Now .some twenty years ago when the Cave wanted to build a school, the Cannington residents wished to get the Cave School so situated that it would do for a school for both districts but the: Cave residents wished it. to be where it is now built. I may here remark that over £BO was collected by the whole of the two districts and sent in to the Board to build this school and a good portion of this came from Cannington ; but Cannington b?ing in the minority had to take a back seat and find the best means they could to school their children, which they have done to their credit, and never went round yet with the hat. to ask the Caveites for one shilling to build a school. Now I think that we can do> without any Cavs dictator interfering with our public affairs. The best thing they can do is to mind their own business and we will do the same.' , • ■ I am, etc., A RESIDENT.
