POULTRY SOCIETY.

.'The committee of the South Canterbury Poultry Society was held in the fchamrocic Hotel last evening, Mr S. R. Burny presiding. There were fifteen members present. Notice was received that the l half yearly meeting of 'tha South Island Association will be> held at Invercargill on 26th. inst. Mr G. Blair was appointed taf represent this Society. ' The Oamaru Society asked whether this Society could • hire. to them some canary cages. A letter was read from Mr Hack, Christcliurch, regarding the position'of th,iv(.lraham trophy., which did not appear on this year's programme. He could not understand the secretary's letter that, the executive last year resolved that the competition for 1907 for this trophy would .be confined' to Mr Burns arid himself. That meant, that if Sir Burns, won it this year the. trophy would be his for good. He (Mr Hack") had two and a half "legs in," Sir Burns only one and a. half, and if Mr Burns won this* year ifc would only m:\ke n tie. The. committee dfetinctly tolci All" Burns that lie had to win the trophy " once and a half," and he (Mr Hack) ''a half." .He therefore would enter I his year under a protest against the contents of 'the secretary's letter." An animated discussion took place on the' question, some; members claiming that the ' committee had no right to confine the competition to any two .persons, as sievenil' other persons had " one leg in." The chairman quoted rule 20, which gives a majority of'the committee power to decide all disputes. Messrs G. ' Thompson and Seager moved that the competition be confined this year to Mess-re, Hack and Burns, and the winner take the. trophy. Mr Lillico moved an amendment that the. trophy remain open to all exhibitors in the classes staled, and Sir F. Watson seconded pro forma. The motion w£is carried by 9 to 3. Mr Watson proposed' that Mr Hack be informed that- the' committee had decided to limit the: competition to himself and Mr Burns, arid that they would decline to accept his entries under • protest. The chairman stated that the la rarest clasires-were in- Silver Wyandotfes. pullets, 20, cockerels 15 Entries had b°en received from furthest north to furthest, south of this island, and.
