The Cricklewood team,- though three players short, gamely left home- despits the fact that four inches-'.of snow lav on the • ground. Very little' t-liawing took place on the Saturday, consequently the game was iitfb productive bi any fat& play, but aii interesting and very novel tussle was witnessed. Considering the heavy nature of the ground both teams played splendidly, and at times there was some very nice ba,ck piay seen on the Fairlie side. The visiting, players were outclassed throughout., and only once got a chance when they neared Fair life's goal line, but- were; unable to carry out> a score., As many be> expected under such conditions the play was highly amusing to the spectators of whom there was a good number, and the playera themselves seemed to be in their element when they got warmed to it. The unexpected antics which were prevalent in the game and the variety of, tactics indulged in kept everyone constantly amuswl. Cricklewood arrived late, and fwo twenty minute' spells played, commencing at four" o'clock. From the start Fairiie pressed a good deal and when Cricklewood were just recovering _by loose play Gilniour (Fairlie) smartly picked the ball up arid gave it to Carroll and.then it went, to O'Dowd, who made a pretty and 'feinting i'un from the liaifiray and scored the first /try. Burnett converted easily. Cricklewood had not returned the ball more than a few minutes when Fairlie instituted a rush and Gallagher scored after sprawling several yards in the snow. No goal resulted. * Cricklewood then made an attempt at attacking, but. got. no further than half-way. Immediately after this Fairlie returned vigorously and put ,in sum?, good passing all the backs handling the ball in turn and <W. Jack on the) wing who got the' last pass scored a good try which was nnS added to. Half time, then cams with 13 points against Cricklewood. On resuming the local team went in for more passing, and it waft very effective for Burnett succeeded in, scorinf an easy try in' the corner after a loose rrsh. Fairlie were then obliged to have recourse to defensive work for five minutes, Cricklewood pressing close on to the goal line. Fairlie s kicking and tackling proved sound and graduallv "relieved the position. Then Fairlie were penalised for off-side play, line! O'Neill, the visitors' captain, lind a shot 'at the goal, but it-, wasi fruitless. Cricklewood's chance was gone, and from this out Fiirlis made- the game open and comparatively foi~t. Barrett- scored the next try for Fairlie, which was not, converged. Returning tlid kick-out the Fairlie backs got to work and another passing rush from the scrum lei Manatoh (wing) over after a £>-ood run. The whistle) ■!h' 1 n sounded leaving Fairlie winners by 22 points to nil. The arame throughout. wa>played in a most friendly spirit, and Cricklewood are to be commended for keening the fixture wilder such weather conditions;. Mr J- R. Wallace gave full 'satisfaction as referee. Tn th°. evening; the visirors; were entertained by the Fairlie. Club at the Fairlie Hotel. Saturday Fairlie play Albury at Fairlie in the return match, -When an even same, is- exp°cted to result-. ® In the first meetiUi!- of thess teams a. very .keen gam? res"lted in favour of Fairlie, by 8 points to 3. The Mackenzie sub-Uriioii fixture-'? will b» closed after the game, and-, then probably some rfepre^entativ' l trial gomes' will follow with (a. view to? playing, outside 'Hatches. | ■
