Knight for his skilful management of the lantern. METHODIST WIT AND WISDOM.There were very few empty seats at the Wesley Church last evening, when the Rev. H. L. Blamires, organising secretary for the Methodist Bible Classes ForwardMovement, delivered a -humorous recital entitled "Wit and Wisdom of Methodist Preachers." The recital took the place of the usual weekly meeting of the Wesley GuUd, and the Rev. S. J. Serpell in introducing the speaker, extended a hearty invitation to visitors to attend the Guild meetings. Mr Blamires then proceeded with his recital, which was a long and varied succession of anecdotes, illustrative plainly of the humour, and also to some exten of (the wisdom of Methodist preachers, whose names are -well-known. Mr Blamire's, proved a speaker of exceptional merit, and his powers to hold the atention of his audience and. at the same time to amuse, were given full scope. His stories were reminiscent of the lives of the pion?ers of Methodism. John Wesley, Daniel Isaac and "Billy" Dawson, of the American pioneer preacher.-, such nsS Peter Cart-wright, and. of the more modern Peter Mackenzie and W. L. : while the locn-1 preacher formed the subject of several highly amusing tales. In a couple of intervals ". songs -were contributed hy Mrs Jovce and Mr Flett. At the conclusion of "the lecture Mr C. S.
