The first milking machine is recorded ]OO years ago, since when at least 100 different machines hav-a appeared. In spite of automatic releasers, and innumerable devices designed to overcome the dangerous stress on the cows, every machine failed absolutely. It remained for Gillies, a Victorian farmer, to patent, 5 years ago, the principle of inletting air in lik« manner to the calf-, and thus produced the " Lawrence-Kcnnedy-Gillies," the first successful milker. .
