■ NOTICES. BOROUGH OF TIMARU. In the matter of '"I he Municipal Corporations Act, 1900," and its Amendments, and " The Rating Act, 1894," and its Amendments. TAKE NOTICE that the Timaru Borough Council purposes making the following Rates at a Special Meeting of the Council to ba held at the Council Chambers, George Street, at 7:30 p.m. on MONDAY, the 10th day of June, ISG7, viz : : AN ANNUAL GENERAL RATE under Section 95 of " The> Municipal Corporations Act, 1900." of ONE SHILLING AND THREEPENCE in the Pound .sterling on the rateable valuers of the rateable pro-pel-lies appearing on the Valuation Roll for the said Borough now in force for the year 1907. WATER RATE. In respect of the ordinary supply upon all lands and buildings to which water is supplied whose rateable vidue on the Valuation Roll Does not exceed £l2 lOx Od a Rate of TEN SHILLINGS per annum. Exceeds £l2 10s Od but does not exceed £3OO, a Rata of FIVE (5) POUNDS PER CENTUM on such value. Exceeds £3OO, a Rate of FOUR -(4) POUNDS PER CENTUM on sucl. value. Upon all lands and buildings to which water can be but is not supplied situate within 100 .yards from any part cif the waterworks a rate of one half of the rates above mentioned. Upon all buildings used as stores ov warehouses or for any purpose other than a dwelling house, at a rate of £2 10:* Od PER CENTUM on the rateable, value. Provided that in every ease when am dwelling house or other building remains actually vacant and unoccupied for a period of not less than six months in any year whether continuously or not and the peiison rated in. respect thereof gives to the Council within 14 days after the expiration of such period notice in writing of the dates on which such house oi building became vacant and : unoccupied' and on which ifc again became occupiad then such person shall be liable to pay only one half the amount which would otherwise be payable for the year's water rates in respect of such dwelling house or other buildings and shall be entitled tn a refund of whatever sum he may have paid in excess of such half. The isaid water rates shall be payable half yearly in advance.

Tlie above mentioned General Rate and Water Rates to apply and bs for a periodcommencing on the Ist- Jamiary, 1907, and ending 31st December, 1907 (with the exception that when water supplied i'"used for domestic purposes such rat? shall apply, and be for the period commencing Ist July, 1907, and ending 30tli June, 1908.

The rates above mentioned together ■with the annual recurring special rate of one shilling in the pound sterling for interest on the. Waterworks Loan to be payable in each case in two half yearly instalments on the 30th Jim?, 1907, and the 31'sti December, J907, to David Wilson Virtue, the appointed Rata Collector, or to such other officer as the Council may from time to time appoint to recover the same. The following is a statement of the proposed rates and also of the proposed expenditure and estimated receipts' in the district fund account for the year ending the 31st day of March, 1908. A full .statement of such proposed expenditure and estimated receipts for the year ending 31st March, 1908, is open for inspection, at the Office of the undersigned between the hours of 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. daily, but on Saturdays only between the hours of 9 a.m. and 1 p.m., until 5 p.m. on the 10th day of June, 1907.
