THEATRICAL ACCOMMODATION.
To the Editor of the "Timaru Herald." Sir, —One hears on all sides lately 01 the marvellous progress 'limaru is making, and justly so. Are we not to have electric light, and underground drainage'! We will also before long have an imposing municipal block of buildings (library, town hall, and municipal offices). There are also being erected large and valuable additions to our business premises, all going to show that the citizens have faith in Timaru's future. But there is one thing wanting—an up-to-date theatre. Our pre-cnt place of amusement has served i s purpose splendidly in the past, but it is common talk amongst all supporters of theatrical shows that lhu local theatre is now too sir.ail and out of date. Visitors from other towns have -expressed surpi ise that Tiouiiu is so behind in this respect. -There was a rumour lately that plans for an up-to-date Opera Holism were out, but whether such is the case I am unable ui say. Large companies have had to pass over our town owing to the smallness of our stage and seaiing accommodation, and if Timaru, which is central between Christchurc-h and Dunedin, is to receive visits from the largest organisations, we must provide a suitable building, as Timaru can always be. depended on t« support the best, that comes along. "I am, etc., THEATREGOER.
