OCEANIC COMPANY WITHDRAW. SYDNEY OFFICES CLOSED. Received 12.53 a.m., May £4^l. SYDNEY, May 23. Definite news v.-as received to-day of the intention of the Oceanic Company to withdraw from the Sydney-Kan Francisco mail service. Mr Jones, the Sydney manager of the company, on bring interviewed, stated that- he had received a cable -message from the directors to that effect, and instructing him to di.'pos..: of all the property here, and wind up tin aiiaira of the company in Sydney without delay. He intends.to close the office by"June 30th.. The primary cause of the withdrawal, Mr Jones- added, was the failure of the Ships' Subsidy Rill to pass ihe- American Congress, helped along in great measure by the unfortunate trouble which the steamers got into, although it musi. not- ba forgotten that for years they ran with clocklike regularity. Mr Jones ha*' no information of what will be done with the steamers. The property in Sydney chiefly consists of a coal hulk, a large quantity of coal, and office fittings.
