At the inquest on the body of Foster, the victims of the tram accident on May 14th, the Coroner found the driver(Lloydj, and' the conductor (Wannick) were drank at the time of the accident, and incapable of properly discharging their duties. A collision was the result of grossly careless driving. Lloyd was committed for trial on a- charge of manslaughter. The verdict does net affect Wanriick.
Per Press Association. NAPIER, May 23. Mr Delisle, health' officer, states that, an -exhaustive examination was made of smears from portions of 'the spleen of the-' lata Frederick Maugav, who died at Gisborne under conditions suggesting plague. The examination did riot result in satisfying the investigators that-the case was on a'of .plague,' but tlw fimsa.rs have bet-n sent to Wellington "for bacteriological examination. On» possible theory in.'that the cause of death was anthrax, ass Maugar was working amongst hides.
GREYMGUTH, May 23. A fatal accident 'occurred at the State Coal Mine this afternoon, whereby a yonr.g lad named Stanley Wagsmith lost his Life. The lad was employed as a. screen lad and got his arm caught in the travelling belt. He -was terribly injured ;:ud .'died half an hour after being released. Deceased was a bright intelligent lad of 17 years of age. INVERCARGILL, May 23Ella Blondell, of Nightcaps, aged four years, during the temporary absence of her mother got too close to the fire and her clothes caught fire and she was so severely burned about the head, face and shoulders that she died this morning in Riverton hospital.
