Manipur State, in North India, which has been under the direct control of the Indian Government since the massacre of British officials in 1891. has now been transferred to the native ruler. Seditious emissaries are circulating reports that the Punjab Government has poisoned the wells, thus causing the plague epidemic. Wild excitement prevails in the villages near Lahore. Two emissaries have been • sentenced to eighteen and t-.ventv-four month*' imprisonment respectively.
