PLEASANT POINT BRANCH

The annual meeting of the Pleasant Point Branch of the Farmers Union was held last week A good attendance of fanners, was evidence that they do not wish the Union to fall through, nor is it likely to if such interest -as was shown, at the meeting be continued. . Mr Cleland 'occupied the. chair. The secretary presented a balance sheet, which showed a credit of JC'7 16s 7d. The question of electing a fresh committee was discussed, and on Mr Shepherd's proposal it was decided that all members present, constitute a committee. Mr Cleland was re-elected chairman, Mr Geo. Acton secretary and treasurer, and Mr James Stewart auditor. A vote of thanks was accorded to Messrs Cleland, Acton, and Stewart for their ■work during the past vear. A circular from the North Canterbury Farmers' Union was discussed. It was decided to give £5 ro the executive for a special fund to defray the expenses of lecturers speaking on behalf of the Union on the Land Bill at various centres throughout New Zealand, and to defray the cost of the public hall for a lecture to be- given at Pleasant Point. A pood deal of correspondence was read and discussed. A vote of thanks was accorded to Mr Wilson for his donation to the Union's funds to further tho interests of the Union. It was decided to raise the membership fea from 5s to 10s. A number of small accounts were passed for payment.
