HUNTING.

THE AROWHENUA MEET. Friday being a public holiday the meet of the South Canterbuiy Hunt will be afc Arowhenua at 11.30 a.m. This annual fixture, which is always an all day meet) on a public holiday, draws a very big field many of whom are mo-unted on horses that cannot jump and who are not subscribers to the Hunt. As it is the c e who by trying to jump unschooled horses do considerable damage to fences, the Matter, Mr A. S. Ehvoiihy, who takes great pains to study the interests of farmers is particularly anxious to try and prevent' any damage being done, by this following of fence breakers. The committej of the 9unt on Frid iy will, therefore, endeavour to carry out his wishes by asking any rider who damages a fence to be content to watch Ilie sport from the road and will also expect 'them to subscribe something towards defraying the expenses of the Hunt, which are heavy. It is well rfcognised that it is not the members of the Hunt who subscribe to it and keep the sport going in South Canterbury that do the harm to the fuiees but tlwe who subscribe nothing to the Hunt and come out to school their horses over fences instead of doing the schooling at home before atenipting to follow hounds across country. It is confidently hoped that consideration for the farmers who allow their country to be hunted will be the first thought of all mounted on Friday at the Arowhenua meet. The next meet in the Geraldine district will be at Mr Earl's, Geraldine Flat, instead cf at- Hilton.
