MR 818-BELL'S BILL CONDEMNED

The Dublin Co-operation, by a unanimous vot?, strongly condemned Mr Birrell's Irish Council* Bill as an insult to the Irish people. The corporation declines to .send delegates to the National Convention. Sir Joseph Ward gave evidence before the vice-regal Commission on Irish railways. He explained the general position of the New Zealand railways and strongly urged Si ate ownership, which he sa,id provided uniformity of system, prevented rebates, assisted the development of settlement, and supplied a great engine for advancing the best interests of the people.
