MINERS BOMBARDED.
DASTARDLY STONE-THROWING.

While the Waitohi miners were proceeding home after ceasing .work at midnight, they were bombarded with stones thrown by*sis men who were hidden on the tip head of another mine. There were several narrow escapes- from serious injuryOne man was knocked down and had hi* head injured ; another, named Lovell. was struck in the face and had the. lower part of his leg injured. It is believed to be broken, and he had to be carried home. Tlis men were warned that they were committing an offence, and hiaht do serkw damage. They replied with oaths, and volleys of stones. No provocation was given, and the only possible explanation is that they were memb-rs of an adult tin can band who had been greeting a married couple. . Stonf-throwing gradually- assumed n more serious aspect when the miners appeared on the scene.
