Canadian daily, farmers, are rapidly awakening to tlio importance of testing their cows. There is an increasng demand upon the Department of Agriculture for the formation of cow-testing associations, and also for the supervision by the same authority of yearly test's of. pure-bred dairy cows endeavouring to qualify for admission to the advanced registers or records of performance for the various breeds. Already twenty-two co-operative cow-testing - associations involving seme 7000 cows of the ordinary grade types have been formed, and applications for organisation have been numerous. The first year of Government supervision of yearly tests of pure-breo: cows is now drawing to a close, and a number of highly cieditable records have already been made. This is a work which cannot fail to cause a marked improvement in the herds of breeders who are sagacious enough to undertake it. Nothing short.of yearly tests under normal conditions /of feedim* and care can be regarded as reliable evidence of the value of a cow as a milk and buttr producer.
