That person chanced to be talkative, and. after he had referred to the weather, and the crons, and the Auckland Handion.n, and. the chances of Grafton for. 'he football championship, and the pros-nec-ts of wet weather, he came to politics. He heard- there had be-n changes in the Ministry and that Charlie Mills and Tam Duncan were " bounced out." What was Tam doing now? he enquired. The Minister answered that Mr Duncan was attending to his farm. "Oh ! that's not as good as being Minister," responded the barber. "He must have had! a. cood screw as Minister." "Oh, something like a. thousand pounds a year." replied Mr McNab. The'barber whistled. 'A thousand jim, eh! Well, from what I know of h.m I would'nt give him that! It's red hot the screws these blokes get, and I suppose the new josser is no better than Tam. By this time the barber was making his run along that part of the face which a pugilist calls "the point," and his eves and the Minister's were in a. direct line.."Who is the new waster, a.nyliow ?" The barber mifc in three long sweeps of the razor, broke all records with the sponge wipe and brush-up, silently collected his sixpence, and for the. first in his life omitted to answer the " Good morning greeting: with which the Minister cheerily made his exit.
