The South Canterbury Coursing Club commenced their seconu annual meeting at the. racecourse yesterday. Thsi jne-tting was excellently maniiged, bub from a sporting point of view, was rather disappointing the hare 3 showing poor form, and kills were frequent. In spite of thisi the majority of tho courses were most inttrescing. and several very fine ones were witnessed during the day. Doughboy, a ttrong favourite, showed fine form in the iiret round, when matched against Heather Queen, and coirvsing a strong hare. The course by Darlinghu'rst and Whisperer waa also a good one, the hare, a strong one, eventually vsciping, as hi the DoughboyHeather Queen match. The final coursa of the day, in tho second round, between Awaptmi and Lord Minto, was the longest and jjrobably the- best-. The dogs held well together after' a strong hare, and the advantages gained by each at the turns were fairly t-venly balanced. Puss .shewed ht-rsslf a really good one, and won at the escapes in line style, and the jialm was given to Awapuni, the favourite iuffiring defeat. Ths first round, of twentyfour courses, was concluded by 4 o'clock, and the second round by 5.30., TJie first iound was got off in good time, but owners caESed a good deal of de-lay during the second rouud by failing -to be at ihe slips reedy for their course.. The following are the results: MAIDEN STAKES, open to dogs that have not won £lO in any one event —first dog £SO; second dog £l2 10s; third dog £5; three; dogs £2 10s each; s-ix dogs £2 each. Mr C. Agitator htld close to the hare, and in the last- turn Ireland for Ever killed. Bitter Beer wouid not submit to leashing, and had to ba withdrawn, Stortman running a bye. Fair A'ell got an early leaa, and alter a .short course puss escaped. Sockburn Boy showed good form, and followed Innisfaii cioidy. After a siraight .run the hare entered the < :scapes and then returned, and after a fast run homed again, Innisfaii winning. Young Monte and Roso Signal ran an undecided course, the hare escaping. In the run-off Young Monte established a good lead and killed in good style. Wilberforce killed at the home fence. Flying Duchess ran well, the advantages from the turn being fairly even, bub the Duchess f=ll and Miss O'Hea killed. Doughboy, on a good fast hare, beat Heather Queen -.fairly -Easily. Darlinghtirst run'a good course with Whisperer, and won on his merits, puss -escaping. ! Lord Clements ran an undecided with Brand Bob, and after an even course Lord Clements won, the •-hare.-, ©.reaping. Softly led from the start, and turned in very good style, winning comfortably. Another undecidsd course had to be re-ruri by Jack Tracey and Special Days, a kill resulting. Saucy Jim and Dus-ky Boy ran a good course, Saucy Jim gaining in thc< turns, and puss escaped. I Heather Bell ran away and won easily on speed and turns, Wild Fern killing. Reunion led from the slips, Juno showing ! up well in the tnrns, and a kill resulted. Iri-h Lad, after a weak hare, ran a short course with Waihao Chief and killed; [ Gardenia and Paul gave a vary good -exhibition after a strong har?, which homed in . good .style. Awapuni won. ' fairly easily from Gopdenough; the hare, which ftarted rather slowly, opened out . and escaped. SECOND ROUND. Major Tavlor beat Manxman. - First Blood beat Gipsy Bell. Agitator beat Storema'n. Fair Nell biat Innisfaii. Ur.iera Boy beat Young Monte. Wiibc-rforee beat 3ihs O'Hae. Darlinghurst • beat Doughboy. Softly beat Lord Clements. Jack Tiacoy b.a; Saucy Jim. Reunion beat Heather Bell. Gardenia b.-x; Irish Lad. Awapvni byat Lord Minto.' Major Taylor and the Manxman ran very evenly, with a slight superiority in t-pe-d and turning shown by the Major, hirst Blood had a straight run to the escapes, puss homing. Agitator ran well. S'toremah killing, and Fair Nell killed in the next course. L'mera Boy won from Young Monte, who killed. Wilberforce won at every turn, lolling at the- escape. After a short straight run, Darliughurit killed his' quarry, a poor hare. Softly showed Una style in his second match, Lord Clements killing. A-fairly even run requited between Jack Tracey and Saucy Jim, tlr; hare escaping. Reunion, as in his fir.-rt coarse, led strongly throughout, ijid v,-on easily, Heather Bell killing. After a fairly -even contest between Gardenia ana Irivh Lad, the former won, puss escaping. Awapuni and Lord Minto ran the best, cows* of the day, with a good strong hare, the turns being well negotiated by both dogs. The card for the Maid-en Stake was called over last ( *,yening, Jack Tracey and Reunion . being ihe favourites; For the open event Princess Royal was the favourite. A ttart will be made this afternoon with the third round, and following this the Supplementary Stakes will be decided.
