TIMARU RIFLE.S. The twenty-second anniversary of the Timaiu Rifles was celebrated last night by a , smoke -concert, and the annual distribution of shooting prizes. Captain McNab presided, supported by Lieutenants Holdgate and Purdom, andi 45 members were present, comfortably filling the supper room. Captain and adjutant Foden and Siaff-Sergeant-Major Healey were, also present. Captain McNab presented the prizes, and the winners' were heartily applauded. Thy principal prizes,were two challenge cups. Ihe company's challenge cup, which if won twice in succession or 'three times at intervals to become an individual property, now bears the following names: —1902-3, Sergeant J. K. Macdonald; '3-4, - Private? A. Baird; '4-5, Col.-Sergt. Biggins; '5-6. Private Worsley; '6-7, Col.Sergt. Higgins. The winner each year also receives a handsome gold medal, a, Mai test cross with the battalion badge on one side, sand the winner's name on the other. The other cup given by ex-Cap-tain White, for privates only, bears- the following names : —'o3-4, C. J. Holdgate ; '4-5, A. Knowles; '5-6, E. Murphy; '6-7, T. Murphy. Committee, Prize-giv-ers, Officers of the Company, Captain Foden and Sergt.-Alajor Healey in replying to toasts,' referred to proposed changes in the annual musketry course and training camp's, and urged every member to qualify for capitation. During the evening songs were given bv Privates Niall. Stevenson. Thoirmson, T. Atnrphy, and Alessvs Lothier, Firkin. Carruthers, Jordan and Regnnur; Pte. Stevenson contributed n, flute solo, mid Atr Allen executed some clever conjuring tricks. A very enjovable evenings entertainmentwas brought to a close at 11 o'clock.
