HAMBURG STEVEDORES' STRIKE. United Press Association—Per Electric Telegraph—Copyright. BERLIN, March 21. The stevedores' strike at Hamburg Ims rendered 243 vessels idle. TROUBLE WITH LUMPERS. SYDNEY, March 22. Recently the coaling, of steamers has been hampered owing to the members of the Coal-Lumpers' Union declining to work on ■ Saturday afternoons. , The steam collier owners and the Coal Stevedore-' Association applied .to the Arbitration Court to amend the award so as to require lumpers to work whenevei requiied excepting between midnight on 'Saturday and midnight on Sunday ; al«o that employers be relieved from the obligation of employing unionists. The President in granting the withdrawal of preference from the Union, said that the men had clearly disregarded the intention of the award, and the employers should be relieved fiom tile hampering provision of prefeience to L T nionists. which prevented employers to a great, extent defining therm elve-. JLnother member of ilie Court declined that the men had taken a veiy wrong stand in not accepting the offer of the Court to hold a confeience with the employers. They should make every effort before,' taking extreme steps! and he strongly urged them to again consider the que«tioh in conference^.
