GERALDINE COUNTY COUNCIL

The monthly meeting of the Geraldine County Council Mas held yesterday. Present—.Messrs J. Talbot (chairman;, A. Metcalfe. A. Kclniiui, and S. Wright. Mr Wigley and another settler waited on the Council supporting a petition from settlers: in the Hanging Rock district agieeing- to form a special rating district 1o enable the Council to borrow money to erect- the proposed traffic bridge over the Opihi.—-It was 'explained by the chairman ill ait- Mr Marcliant was preparing a plan of the proposed district. The engineers leported having visited Hanging Rock. By striking out the whole , of the protective works formerly intended, and .planting willows thickly and in a peculiar manner, they hoped to induce the total cost, of the work by something- like J3ICOO. The willow planting, they believed, would be entirely successful. The. Department of Roads .notified that the . authority for a, grant- of £SOO on account of £IOOO. which had been issued to the Mackenzie County Council for the proposed Allandnle bridge, would now be cancelled and reissued to the Geraldine Council. . It was decided to make application to the Colonial Secretary for a, loan of £2COO to "provide the' Council's share of the cost of rebuilding that portion of the Ran»itata bridge which was recently destroyed by fire. The Level* Coun'y Council asted the Council, to join with them, and Waiinate and Mackenzie counties in defending an appeal >in 1 lie case of Ilarkness v. Levels Council.—This Council will contribute a fourth share. •The Teniuka Borough Council asked 'support- for a protest against- the name' of Geraldine being tacked on to. their elector-ate.--This i Council will not interfere. . Accounts amounting to £528 Is were .passed: for payment. -
