Mr Hyde, the Government poultry expert, visited the Show yesterday, and he complimented the Staging .Committee on.-the arrangement of the pens, andC'aaid, it was the best he had seen in the'siiblbny. .. The different breeds were-very uneuaHy represented as usual, some of those-named on the prize schedule-hot- being sent in at all. Wyandottes ; (87- entries), Leghorns (68), Orpingtons (53) and 'Bantams (50) were the most nnmeroosly represented. One of two Sou& Island championships was allotted to White Wyandottes, b»t this prize did not "swell the' entry list in this division, there being' only 28, as against 29 in, sflvers, and 24 in goldens. The championship was'awarded to'Mr G. Blair, for a cockerel. : The other championship was for 4 a tumbler, 'and. goes to'Christchurch. • The collection of pigeons is a large one and interesting in its variety, the pigeon being the most variable bird in domestication. . ANNUAL DINNER. ' _ The annual dinner given by the Society to the judges and foreign exhibitors was [held last evening in the Assembly Rooms, ;oyer sixty sitting down to an excellent iapread. prepared by Mr Budd. The president, Mr S. R. Bums, - occupied 1 the chair, and proposed the health of the ijudges, paying them some high compli-. 'menta. ■ They had always done their work most satisfactorily, and Timaru had never complained of any of the decisions given. |\ Mr AS. Palmer responded, and in the course of his Temarks said that in some classes he had had .very hard work to award the He congratulated the Society on its" successful show. Mr McLean also responded' and said that I th> pigeon classes were most creditable. Mr Whittaker proposed' the " Successful Exhibitors," and remarked that the show of Wyandottes' was the' Best he had even; seen, and, he congratulated, the winners.— Messrs Blair,' Thomson; and Hack responded. iV> v - Mr Watson highly .complimented Mr Hack for the way" he had brought out his birds. He then handed Mr Thomson (on behalf of his sister) the ladies'r bracelet for, the best Wyandotte in the Show; and presented similar trophies to Mr Burns (the president) and Mr Gerid. t * The president proposed the r" Poultry Industry," 'and this was* responded to, by Mr Townsend (Government Poultry Grader). He said that as regards poultry exporting there -was a big falling off. He thought that it should be supported, and stated that a shipment which had 'been* made realised very satisfactory prices. The toast' of the '"Visitors "„ was pro-' posed by the president, and responded' to by Messrs Hick and-Townsend, and members of the Williamson Operatic Society, who 'arrived after the play was over and added: toy, the enjoyment -. of the proceedings. , v.
