Kennedy, representing, the New Zealand Athletic Union, yas held ,in Rankin's Rooms last evening, to discuss the advisability of forming an athletic centre for South Canterbury to affiliate with the New-Zealand Athletic "Union. ' There were present Mr W. Gunn (in the chair), N. Fraser (secretary), D. Moriarty ((Ashburton), W. Fitzgerald, and S. Wiiloughby (Geraldine), J. P. Kalaugher (Winchester). Apologies' were received from the Caledonian Society and Bicycle Club. Temuka. expressing sympathy with the movement. The question was discussed at great length, though there was no active opposition. It was recognised that there was a necessity for a governing body to control professional sport in this district, or f-r that matter, in New Zealand. -"It was resolved that a. centre be formed for South Canterbury.
