An exciting tragedy occurred to-day on the main thoroughfare of Xewlown, on© of the most populous snbuth*. by which a policeman lost his life, and tba murderer 1 killed himself after shooting at* several of; those who were seeking to capture Mm. The tragedy seems to be the outcome! of kindness and charity showa by a. widow j iMrs Fenwickl and her family wmc years ago to Tommy, a native of Tanna, New Hebrides. Tommy wa,* allowed to occupy a detached loom, was kept in food, acd picked up odd job*. He became quarrelsome, threatened the family, and purchased a revolver and Winchester repeating rifle. Tommy demanded £-30. which he said j the Fenwicks* owed him. He tbea drew a revolver and fired at Charles Peawick.
