SUCCESSFUL GARDEN PARTY.

The ladies who constitute St. Mary's , Guild, an organisation, which for many years has done" good service by providing ; means for reducing the debt on the church property, usually bold a concert in the winter, as one means of raising funds. As tae concert was missed last winter they , determined; to hold: a garden party this t .summer in its -stead, 'and this came off yes- [ :terday afternoon on the grounds of Mr E. lA. Mrs Guinness and Rev, Mr. Curnow controlled. the boys'...sports,- which were made amusing for the onlookers, sack, obstacle, egg-andrspoon and . bun-snatching contests being preferred. 'A very pretty bicycle ride by, two teams of. girls, in gay costumes, gave the visitors much pleasure. Many of those present made remarks to the effect that the party was very much nicer than a concert, but to the members of the Guild it had beerT a canse of much anxiety owing to the unsettled state of the weather.
