TEMAKA RAILWAY STATION.

THE NEW BUILDING. The new railway station at Temuka was brought into use yesterday. It has been practically completed" for ' some time, but the" opening was put off from time to time till Sir J. G. Ward or some other' Minister could come and perform ah official opening ceremony. - But as Sir Joseph had to leave the colony, the ceremonious opening wai= postponed sine • die and the station used, as it were, unconsecrated. There is no comparison between the old and the new buildings. ' -The • original lean-to affair looks like an outhouse beside the handsome new station. Th 6 latter is a few yards further north, and the old platform . will still be- used. It is extended some distance southwards, and the whole length of the platform is about 2()0 yards. ' About 120 feet—the length ;of/ the station; building—is: roofed over with -a -gabled roof, supported on simple posts built of two rails and a wooden centre piece, the rails be-icgr-spread at the top towards the side of ;.tHe:-raof- The platiorm is about 2Q feet .wide all along, and though only shingled "at- presents, will by i and bye be asphalted. 3The station building is out of the ordin-run-in'this province, denoting the entrance ,;of an. .artistic element into the designs ;of the : Government's properties.
