TENNIS.

WAiavffil V. TIMARC The annual tennis match, Tunaxii v. "Wai- ' "tohi Terrace,- was' played on Saturday afternoon, at Waitohi, and resulted in an excelIlent win for the home ciub by the good majority of 16 games. The -weather -was ■variable, the advance .party of Timaru players driving _out -in the morning amid steady Tain. Luckily the weather cleared about noon, and the afternoon -was all that <could be -wished for outdoor pastimes. -The snatch, was very keenly contested, and was witnessed by a good muny enthusiasts in the game. The play "was of the highest order seen' on the Waitohi Club's courts; the ladies especially playing a .keen and hard* game. Among the men Mr W. Pearse, who is just back from the champion tourney and other North Island fixtures embracing a month's solid tennis among the best players in the colony, was i in exceptionally fine form, and it was a i pleasure to his old opponents and many • friends to see the improvement' he shows in all-round play. It was also-a pleasure to some of tbe veterans engaged to see how well the younger players of both .clubs i are. comings on, and there is no doubt that such- gatherings as that of Saturday are productive of a lot of good to the game in South Canterbury. The visitors were most hospitably entertainedT Players and friends had lunch together at Mr and Mrs T.
