The steamer Rosamond, which arrive*! ™ port to-day, reports having picked up off Cape Palliser an oil launch, the XanolL naving on board four Italian fishermen. 1 , nnc^'3 machinery had broken down, and: she was drifting to sea in a sinking condition when the Rosamond took the men on board. The launch was taken in tow by the steamer, but during the night she broke away, and has probably rone Ungton. fishermen all belong to Wdm, j WELLINGTON, January L The death is reported o£ Captain Leary who was prominent in volunteer affairs.
